Drama Students Shine in “The Great American Scream”

Darwin High School’s Stage 2 Drama students recently brought The Great American Scream to life in The Tank Dance Studio on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 August, and what a performance it was!

The show was a razor-sharp, theatrically vibrant satire set in New Jersey in 1938, reimagining Orson Welles’ infamous Halloween radio broadcast that sparked panic about a Martian invasion. With wit, energy and flair, our talented performers delivered a fast-paced and hilarious narrative that cleverly balanced comedy with deeper cultural critiques around media truth, racism, and patriarchal power.

Audiences were captivated from start to finish, with many commenting on the professionalism, maturity, and passion of the cast. The blend of nostalgic Americana with incisive political commentary created an engaging theatrical experience that both entertained and provoked thought.

A huge congratulations to our Stage 2 Drama students for their outstanding creativity, dedication and teamwork throughout the rehearsal process and across both performance nights. Special thanks and congratulations also go to their teacher, Mr Belz, for his guidance, expertise and tireless support in helping students bring this ambitious production to the stage.

The success of The Great American Scream is a testament to the talent and commitment of both our students and staff, and we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved.
