Family Fun Day
On Wednesday 23 October twenty-two Darwin High School Stage 1 Child Studies students volunteered at a Family Fun Day community event at Jingili Water Gardens for Universal Children’s Day.
The event was part of the local National Children’s Week program and the students planned and designed activities fun activities’ for the event.
National Children's Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood and is celebrated annually on the fourth Wednesday in October around Australia.
The students volunteered their time to running their play activities which were designed to meet the varied needs of early childhood aged children and their diverse talents, skills and abilities.
Thousands of children and their families around the country are involved in activities and events during Children’s and the Jingili Water Gardens event was a huge success. Even the extreme humidity couldn’t wipe the smiles off faces!
Designated by the nations of the world, Universal Children's Day calls society to a greater response to the plight of many millions of children around the world who are denied the basic necessities of a happy childhood and the education to develop their capacities. It also calls us in Australia to consider those conditions in society which affect the lives and future of our own children.
