From the Board
Last month the Department of Education conducted an External School Review of Darwin High School and the Board is pleased to report the findings are incredibly positive and a great reflection of the School's dedication to inspired learning. The review, which is held every two years, involves discussions with staff, students, the School’s Executive team and Board members. It commends Darwin High School as representing ‘the very best of government school education in the Northern Territory’.
The findings recognised the strong ongoing support for students across the full range of student services, giving high praise to the School’s staff and their dedication, support and professional expertise. As a Board, we recognise that Darwin High School is truly fortunate to have such committed staff working under the inspired leadership of Trevor Read, and we are pleased to see that the review gave it such an accolade. Our staff work equally hard to support student wellbeing and help students develop into responsible and compassionate human beings.
Importantly, the review also affirmed the School’s current focus on key areas such as Visible Learning, financial and administrative support functions and the excellent NTCET completion rate for Indigenous students of 100%. It commended the School Board for its vision and advocacy of the Independent Public School model.
The review also made a number of recommendations for improvement and these will be used to further refine the School's Business Plan 2016-19 and 2017 Implementation Strategy.
