Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony

On Friday 17 August the Darwin High School band took part in the 73rd Indonesian Independence Day ceremony at the Indonesian Consulate in Darwin.
The seventeen piece band is made up of students from Years 10-12 as well as several of our talented teachers. They have a broad repertoire that includes everything from Classical works to Jazz and Movie Themes. As part of a long standing partnership, the Darwin High School band is invited to play at the annual Indonesian Independence Day celebrations held at the Indonesian Consulate in Darwin.
During the thirty minute ceremony, students had the opportunity to witness the raising of the Indonesian flag, listen to the Indonesian National Anthem, and follow all ceremony instructions which were given in Indonesian. Students enjoyed experiencing the cultural importance of the event, and the austere nature of the songs they had learned. Students were invited to the celebratory meal after the ceremony.
