Inspiring Futures at the BiG Day In
On Thursday 15 May, Darwin High School students had the exciting opportunity to attend The BiG Day In, hosted by the ACS Foundation at the Darwin Hilton. The event provided an invaluable chance for students to explore the diverse and rapidly evolving world of careers in Information Technology and STEM.
Throughout the day, students engaged with leading industry professionals and discovered the many ways that technology influences all sectors — from piloting fighter jets and designing video games, to cyber security, encryption, and underwater drone mapping.

Students were particularly intrigued to learn that the average Australian gamer is not a teenager, but a 35-year-old — a surprising insight that challenged common assumptions and highlighted the broad scope of the gaming industry.
A special highlight of the day was seeing Darwin High School Class of 2023 graduate Mikaela Caldwell acknowledged at the event. Mikaela was recently awarded the ACS Foundation Women of STEM Scholarship, which will support her in her tertiary studies. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and continued success.
We extend our sincere thanks to Ms Dhir, Mr Clayton, and Officer Sue for organising and supporting our students’ participation in this enriching event. Their ongoing commitment ensures our students are exposed to real-world learning experiences that inspire future pathways.
We are also grateful to the ACS Foundation and all presenters for hosting such a dynamic and eye-opening day. Our students left the event informed, inspired, and excited about the endless possibilities that a future in IT and STEM can offer.
