International Exchange Student Profile
At Darwin High School we have over 30 years' experience in providing international student education. In 2017 the school has welcomed forty international and seven exchange students.
In this newsletter we profile David Bregoli, who joined Darwin High School for three months as an exchange student from Milan, Italy.
By exchange student, David Bregoli
It is really common for students in my school to go on exchange to improve their English language skills and explore a new part of the world. I was interested in Darwin for the warm climate, the fact that it was a capital city, and the diverse population. Since arriving, he’s been out camping, visiting the city and even taken a jumping crocodile cruise on the Adelaide River. My favourite thing about Darwin is the warm weather and opportunities for swimming.
The are many differences between Milan and Darwin, while Darwin has fewer shops, it also has less pollution, more natural beauty and much longer distances to travel between locations.
I really enjoyed the variety of subjects students at Darwin High are able to choose from, my favourites were photography and psychology. Back home subject choices are limited because most students choose a specialised school course from a younger age. In Milan, we go to school Monday through Saturday, so there is no time for even part-time work.
Now that David has completed his stay in Darwin and returned to Italy, he will have one more year of school to complete and will have only missed four weeks of school due to the Italian school holidays being opposite to the Northern Territory’s.
We wish David and all exchange students the very best while and DHS and if any students are interested in student exchange options, please contact Career Services or have a look at the options below:
