National Schools Debating Championships

National Schools Debating Championships

Last week Darwin played host to the Australian National Schools Debating Championships. Five Darwin High School students represented Darwin High School and the Northern Territory in the competition.

The Australian Debating Federation holds an annual Australian National Schools Debating Championships. The championships, which are contested by eight teams of high school students from each of Australia's eight states and territories, date back to 1971.

While the NT team only celebrated the one win, they performed admirably against some stiff and experienced competition. Congratulations to our outgoing Year 12 debaters Samuel Roussos, Joel Keith and Lachlan Anderson. We look forward to seeing our next generation of debators Year 11 student Harvie Stiller-Wojkowski and Year 10 student Olivia Anderson when they return for the schools debating championships next year. Special mention to Joel for being awarded as a Highly Commended Speaker and to Bruce Cameron for all his work convening the event.
