PRIDE Day 2019

PRIDE Day 2019

On Friday 16 August Darwin High School held its annual Pride Day event. This student-led initiative supported LGBTQIA+ students, and is part of Darwin High School’s ongoing wellbeing focus.

The initiative was also supported by the Darwin High School Board, the Northern Territory AIDS and Hepatitis Council (NTAHC), the Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commission, Headspace, Darwin Pride and MLA, Michael Gunner, Member for Fannie Bay.

The lunchtime event had a festival atmosphere, with members of the school community dressing in rainbow colours or wearing a rainbow pin or wristband to show their support for the day. Students and staff enjoyed musical performances from our talented music students and Pride Committee members addressed students in between performances.

There was plenty of rainbow-themed food and merchandise available, with students sharing messages of support in a photo booth.

The event was a huge success, raising over $1000 for Headspace and an absolute credit to the group of students who initiated, planned and coordinated the day. Feedback about the day was overwhelmingly positive.
