Queensland Academy for Science, Maths and Technology

Queensland Academy for Science, Maths and Technology

By Year 10 students Zoe Francis, Alice Cotter and Zoe Greer

During National Science Week, we went to Brisbane to compete in a science fair, along with John Monash High School, Australia Maths and Science School and the hosting school, Queensland Academy for Science, Maths and Technology. We presented our project to a board of scientists, including Emerita Professor Mary Garson AM FAA FRSC FRACI, the president of IUPAC, the organisation that owns the periodic table.

Travelling to Brisbane was a wonderful opportunity to share our findings on our local coastal erosion issues investigation. In doing this, we were exposed to an insightful community of professional scientists, teachers and students passionate about STEM and presenting information to better our future.

While in the city, we were also able to explore the CBD, the planetarium and Southbank with the other students, which were unforgettable experiences. Overall, it was a fun, exciting week, and we were very grateful for the opportunity.
