Road Safety

Road Safety

Ms Allen's SIEU Water Safety and Recreation class has also been learning about road safety and the importance of understanding and abiding by road rules when riding bikes in Australia.

A huge thank you to David Wigley from Auscycling for leading both of our bike riding sessions. Students had the opportunity to learn how to ride slowly, how to lift their bike tires to transition from the ground to a higher step, how to ride in close proximity to others and how to brake safely.

On Wednesday 31 March we consolidated our understanding by completing a 35km bike ride from Darwin High School to East Point and back. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and demonstrated their understanding of road safety numerous times by; waiting for traffic to pass before crossing the road, ringing their bike bell when passing people, and crossing at designated places.
