School is Open for Term 2, 2020 on Monday 20 April at 8am

The Chief Minister for the Northern Territory and Minister for Education have announced in line with the current health advice schools are safe to remain open and all Northern Territory students are expected to attend from day one, Term 2, Monday 20 April.

Darwin High School will be operating as normal and resuming face to face learning. All students are expected to attend all their classes from lesson 1 Monday, with the exception of those who are unwell or have been advised to stay home by a medical practitioner. If this is the case, parents/guardians need to notify the school immediately via Compass or by phoning 8999 1222 so that their child can be supported to engage in learning.

Teachers will be delivering face to face classes and this will be their priority until health advice deems that schools should close. Only in the event of a forced school closure will the school move to deliver learning online.

Students who do not attend school in Term 2, who have not been directed by a medical practitioner to stay home are responsible for maintaining engagement in their learning via Compass. Please note these students will not be eligible for special provisions or any assessment adjustments.

If your child will not be returning to school on Monday 20 April for the start of Term 2 please notify the reason they are not attending and the specific dates of absence via Compass or phone 8999 1222 as soon as possible.

Our primary focus is ensuring that we continue to provide education in a safe environment and we will continue to maintain the additional measures put in place last term to ensure high standards of health and hygiene.

The last few months have brought our school community a great deal of disruption and uncertainty. The start of a new term brings with it the opportunity of a renewed focus and the delivery of high quality learning programs that enable our students to achieve excellence.

If you have any specific questions or concerns related to your child’s individual situation, please do not hesitate to contact the school on 8999 1222.

I hope you have had an opportunity to enjoy time with your family over the Easter and mid-semester break and I look forward to seeing everyone when school returns for Term 2.

Kind Regards

Jill Hazeldine

Principal
