Secrets Amazes
SECRETS celebrates what dance does best - it takes us on a journey - it presses buttons, provokes responses and challenges our boundaries by giving voice to important issues within our community. Joanna Noonan, artistic director of SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre, has once again created another theatrical and emotional performance, the third instalment of SLIDE’s Educational Awareness Trilogy, SECRETS. Striving to communicate critical messages, this piece delves into the impact of drug use with the aim to trigger vital discussions within our community, hoping to save a life.
Noonan’s clever ensemble, duet and solo choreography, alongside her innate theatricality, reveals the casts’ relationships to one another, and truly creates living images of people, their lives, their longing for security, their struggles and their addictive rituals. The cast and crew featured over 95% of DHS current or past Performing Arts graduates, including Jordan Bretherton, Kira Witte, Danial Ireland, Tom Lydiard, Iona Francis, Sam Chin and Maria Da Silva. Performers deliverNoonan’s complex and inventive choreography with an energy and deliberateness one would expect from a professional dance company.
