Seniors' Morning of Entertainment 2020

Seniors' Morning of Entertainment 2020

On Friday 21 August, Darwin High, hosted its annual Seniors’ Morning of Entertainment event. Proudly in its twelfth year, many of the guests declared it the highlight of the Seniors’ Month Calendar.

The program for the morning was packed with student performances including: the Darwin High School Concert Band, School Choir and Music students; and Dance students. Year 12 students Katie Chesworth, Otto Blum, Nuhansi Wijesinghe, Atish Ajaykumar, Phoebe Myerscough and Ben Kievit shared the MC role, while members of the SRC and Stage 2 Community Studies created a welcoming environment for the Seniors, escorting them during the event.

In order to remain COVID safe we adopted a cautious approach for the event and this unfortunately meant restricting the number of guests to 100 community members. Inn addition to the music and dance performances, the celebration also included a morning tea prepared and served by the Stage 2 Integrated Learning Catering Class. The students chose recipes in line with Nutrition Australia guidelines for maximum nutrition in small portions and followed a defined catering budget. With many guests rating as restaurant quality, everyone agreed it was absolutely delicious.

The morning also showcased an exhibition by Year 10-12 Art students from painting, design & photography classes across all year levels.

The display also featured student work that was selected for the Portrait of a Young Territorian Exhibition.

Principal, Jill Hazeldine

A huge thank you to staff for working so hard to ensure this event was able to take place! Thanks to Year 12 student MCs, Community Studies and SRC students and all the amazing performers. This was one of the first times this year that our students were able to perform to a live audience, and the talent was outstanding!

Thank you to everyone who supported and attended the event. We look forward to welcoming you all again in 2021.

Last Friday we held our annual Seniors’ Morning of Entertainment. This year the event was particularly special because it was the first time our students were able to perform to an audience and we were able to come together as a school community.

The end result was a fantastic showcase our incredibly talented students and our dedicated teachers. Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to all those who attended.

Guest feedback

Just want express our thanks for a fantastic morning of entertainment performed by the students at Darwin High School. What a very talented group of young people they all are. Please relay our best wishes for the futures of all the students. Huge thanks also to EVERYONE involved in making the morning the great success it was. We appreciate the fact that there are so many people involved behind the scenes in producing this event. We Seniors are so spoilt. Even provided with a scrumptious morning tea, congratulations to the home economics students.
You guys are fantastic and leave schools in NSW for dead!
I was amazed, gratified and applaud the students and teachers for their hard work. If they are the students we are sending into society, she feels very confident that we will be heading in the right direction.
