SIEU Celebrates 2020
By SIEU teacher, Robyn Northcote
There were tears, laughter, and lots of memories shared
On Tuesday, the Secondary Intensive English Unit farewelled 38 former Year 12 students. These students have come from a range of different countries for a variety of reasons – with English being their second or even third language. They all began in the SIEU and this year, they are completing their NTCET.
Not only are they learning English but they are learning through English. This is really quite an achievement and we are very proud of them.
Tears were shed once the memories started flowing and the Year 12s gave advice to those now following. “Don’t give up,” said a beaming student who had had many ups and downs. “Ask for help,” said another who looked at the teachers and Home Language Officers who had supported them when they first arrived. “You can do it,” said another with great self-confidence.
We wish them all the very best as they find their way in the next few years and look forward to their return to tell us how they are going.
