SIEU Students Celebrate International Women's Day

SIEU Students Celebrate International Women's Day

By SIEU Teacher Robyn Northcote

We too choose to challenge.

On International Women’s Day, Monday 8 March, the Secondary Intensive English Unit shared stories about women’s rights, issues, and attitudes towards women across the globe.

We decided that we too ‘choose to challenge’ and discussed how we too could play a part in our everyday lives to be part of change.

‘As a young women, I will share stories and listen when another young woman feels upset and stressed. We will be strong together.’

‘I will support other young women to be more active and confident.’

‘I will help fight for women’s rights in the future because if women have their freedom, it will be good for me too.’

‘I will not let my friends talk badly about young women.’

‘I will try new things even though it will be hard at first and I will be proud of what I have achieved.’

‘I will not give up trying, even if I fail again and again, because I am the future.’

‘I will encourage my brother to do some household chores because cleaning is not just ‘women’s work’.’

‘I will teach my dad to cook so he can help at home.’

‘I will celebrate women’s achievements.’
