Spanish Study Tour Begins in Granada
On Sunday, 13 Darwin High School Languages students and two staff successfully commenced the 2025 Spanish Study Tour. After navigating travel delays caused by the recent cyclone, the group demonstrated impressive resilience and flexibility, and we thank families for their support during the unexpected changes.
The tour began in Granada, a city rich in history and cultural significance. Students settled into the centrally located Hotel Meliá Granada before setting out to explore two of the city’s most iconic areas: Calle Calderería Nueva, known for its Moorish-inspired shops and tea houses, and the historic Alcaicería Market, once the centre of the city’s silk trade. It was a wonderful introduction to the atmosphere and diversity of Granada.
Day Two featured a major highlight – a visit to the world-famous Alhambra. Students toured the Nasrid Palaces, the Courtyard of the Lions, the Hall of the Ambassadors and the stunning Generalife Gardens, gaining valuable insight into Spain’s Islamic history and architectural legacy.
In the afternoon, the group continued their learning with a guided walking tour of the city, taking in the grandeur of Granada Cathedral, the winding streets of the Albaicín, live street performances, traditional flamenco cave houses and the well-known Paseo de los Tristes. Students also enjoyed a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the Alhambra.

The tour is off to an outstanding start, with students embracing every opportunity to immerse themselves in Spain’s language, culture and history. We look forward to sharing further updates as their journey continues.
