Sport Success
By teacher Sophie McConnell
This week was the School Sport Education NT 15 & Under Regional Netball Championship. DHS teacher Ms Pike was the manager of the Rubies netball team, who had Layla Totham, Emma Healy, Judith Ugwu, Poppy Kreuger and Madison West from DHS.
I managed the Emeralds team (pictured above), with Kat P (our defence mentor) as coach. Darwin High Students Hanna Eastick and Ava Kelly were members of this team who were undefeated and winners of the championship. All students showed exemplary sportsmanship and had a fulfilling three days competing against teams from the Top End Region, Arnhem, Big Rivers and Central displaying impressive netball skills. Players also engaged in an educational session on asthma awareness.
The Northern Territory Representative team was selected at the championship with Hanna Eastick, Ava Kelly, Layla Totham, Judith Ugwu and Madison West earning spots in the team and gearing up to participate in the Australian School Games in term 3 on the Gold Coast.
In other sports news:
Joseph Bonson, Skylar Walo, Andrei Das and Sean Deutch were selected in the NT 2024 10-19 years combined swimming team - who will also be competing at the Australian School Games on the Gold Coast in August.
Noa Burchill came 2nd over the weekend in a 10km duo swim at a lake Argyle event.
Congratulations to all these students on their fantastic achievements.
