Stage 2 Legal Studies Students Visit Parliament House
Last week, our Stage 2 Legal Studies students participated in an insightful excursion to Parliament House, as part of their exploration of governance and the legislative process in the Northern Territory.
During the visit, students had the privilege of meeting Ms Laurie Zio, Member for Fannie Bay. Ms Zio shared her personal journey into politics and spoke about the diverse responsibilities of a local member, including community engagement, representing constituents, and contributing to parliamentary debates and committees.
A highlight of the excursion was the opportunity to observe Question Time from the public gallery. This experience gave students a firsthand look at the procedures and dynamics of parliamentary debate, offering valuable context for their classroom studies on law-making and democratic processes.
The excursion was an excellent example of active, real-world learning, deepening students’ understanding of how laws are developed and the role elected representatives play in shaping public policy.
