Students star at World Jump Rope Championships
Last month skippers from around the globe gathered in Colorado Springs in America for the International Jump Rope Union (IJRU) World Jump Rope Championships. Darwin High School students Madison Bowler (Year 10), Ruby Joswig and Abbey George (Year 11) and Class of 2022 graduate Sammy George, were among the athletes representing competing for glory.
Madison, Ruby, Abbey and Sammy were a part of the 96-strong National team involved in the 8 day competition, alongside 1575 athletes from 24 countries.
IJRU holds its World Championships biannually featuring the top jump rope athletes in single rope and double dutch disciplines. Athletes compete in a preliminary round to secure a spot in the finals, and ultimately, compete for the title of World Champion.
All of our students performed very well in the competition. Abbey won two gold medals for events the International Open Tournament and made the finals for an event in the premier, open-age, World Championship competition, alongside Sammy.
Congratulations Abbey, Ruby and Madison!
