Talking Tech with Dr Karl

On Friday 28 of April, 26 lucky year 10 Darwin High students joined students from nine other Darwin region high schools to hear from the renowned scientific genius, Dr Karl.
He talked with us about career opportunities in the science field and the future pathways that science is taking, and many interesting science facts interspersed throughout the presentation.
Dr Karl focused on discussing advancements in the technology, engineering, and biology industries; wowing us with facts about how rapidly the computer technology has advanced in the last 25 years, and the future of editing genes using new CRISPR biology technologies. We learned about the breakthrough in curing diabetes and how it couldn’t have happened without science.
He taught us that each generation is smarter than the last, meaning that our generation consists of the smartest humans in the world! He shared with us about his long career of learning and helped us to understand that no question is a bad question. Along with his presentation he also answered many students’ scientific queries including debunking myths and explain new complex discoveries in engaging and a simplified ways.
This excursion was a highlight of the year so far, and we are looking forward to hearing more from Dr Karl on the radio!
