Tiwi Island Excursion

In week 4 of this Term, Darwin High Schools Stage 2 Aboriginal Studies class took a day trip to the Tiwi Islands.
After a successful BBQ fundraiser to help finance our trip we made the 2 ½ hour ferry ride over for a day of exploration.
With our Aboriginal and Islander Liaison Officer Joe Kelly as our guide, we started our walking tour with a visit to the Church precinct and learnt about the missions and history of the area.
After, we took a short walk, accompanied by two friendly dogs, to the Tiwi art centre followed by the museum, where we saw the beautiful artwork and screen-printing that was produced in the area.
A BBQ lunch on the beach completed a fun day where we were fortunate enough to learn about Aboriginal art and culture in a truly beautiful location.
