Travel Tips for School Leavers

Travel Tips for School Leavers

By Officer Sue

Every year School Based Police Officer Sue Seears hopes to prepare our Year 12 Students for their next adventure after finishing school and sometimes this may involve an overseas trip, spreading their wings to travel without their parents or carers.

It’s an exciting time for them and Officer Sue wants them to be prepared….So on Friday 16th August Darwin High Schools Year 12 students attended a special assembly with Officer Sue and special guests from The Australian Border Force; Jane Dennison and Samantha McCarry.

An assembly centred around safe overseas travel, taking care of your valuables, alcohol and drug awareness and safety and students also learned about what they were allowed to bring back into Australia via customs and what they had to avoid. Students received some very important travel tips and were somewhat surprised to hear about the special powers the ABF have in regard to accessing their mobile phones and how the laws and customs in other countries differ from our own in Australia. Exciting times ahead, safe travels to all.”
