Up the Guts Music Workshop
Darwin High School music students were invited to take part in a learning and development workshop as part of the Up the Guts tour. The two hour workshop delivered on its aim to inspire young people with all things music related.
Up the Guts is a music initiative made up of a group of intrepid musicians who travelled from Hobart to Darwin. The tour was a celebration of Australian rock’n’roll with gigs in 15 towns, along with 10 youth workshops along the way. The tour gave a diverse collection of creatives the opportunity to talk about their own experiences in music.
The Darwin workshop, held on 8 August at Darwin High, gave students the opportunity to learn from the knowledge and experience of tour members including the bands, singer-songwriters, production managers, tour promoters and media producers. Students were given an honest perspective on the triumphs and challenges that young people in the music industry face. The workshop did not disappoint with participants describing the opportunity as:
‘so much fun’
‘really inspiring’
‘wonderful experience’
‘awesome’
‘learned so much about industry’
‘inspiring to hear their stories’
‘great jamming’
The organisers praised our students as incredibly switched on, focused, engaged and interactive. They said it was the highlight of their journey and the perfect way to finish their tour. The organisers are very much looking forward to visiting us again next year and would love to have Darwin High School permanently on their trip schedule.
