Visit from an Olympian
On Monday 29 August Darwin High School was privileged to welcome a visit from Australian Olympian Eloise Wellings (2 Olympics and 5 Commonwealth Games) and renowned mental skills coach Rory Darkins. Eloise and Rory spoke to a number of classes, with Eloise giving students an insight into her experiences representing Australia.
Included in the presentation, were valuable messages around an Olympian's guide to positive psychology and how students can use the concepts of allowing themselves to dream bigger, embracing challenges with a growth mindset, growing your passion, and feeding your inner coach, not your inner critic.
We have been exploring some of these concepts in our SEL program throughout the year. It was great to hear how Eloise has put these concepts into practice throughout her Athletics career.
