Volunteering and Cultural Connection: DHS Students Support Greek Glenti Festival

Volunteering and Cultural Connection: DHS Students Support Greek Glenti Festival

As part of National Volunteer Week, 30 Darwin High School students and 3 staff generously volunteered their time on 6 June to support the Greek community and learn more about the cultural influences that shape Darwin’s vibrant food scene.

Students were invited to take part in a unique and rewarding experience—preparing traditional dolmades at the Greek Church Hall to help with preparations for the annual Greek Glenti Festival. Their efforts were warmly received, with event organisers praising the students for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to contribute.

The volunteering continued across the long weekend, with another 20 students assisting with various shifts during the festival itself. Their participation not only supported a major local event but also demonstrated strong community spirit and cultural engagement.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms Sevi Redwood for facilitating this opportunity and to all the students who took part. Your involvement reflects the values of respect, community, and active citizenship that we are so proud to see at Darwin High School.
