WAAPA Selections
The hard work, training and preparation for the Darwin High School performing arts students auditioning for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) has paid off! Congratulations to Macon Riley, Andrew Hughes-Morris, Millie Hunt and Demi Tcha on accepting offers into WAAPA for a 2017 BA Performing Arts Dance, the highest number of acceptances in five years.
WAAPA is part of Edith Cowan University and is recognised nationally and internationally for the quality of its graduates. WAAPA has produced many of Australia’s well-known actors, dancers, musicians and music theatre stars including Hugh Jackman, Frances O’Connor, Marcus Graham, William McInnes, Lisa McCune, Lucy Durack, Rachelle Durkin, Emma Matthews, Jamie Oehlers, Eddie Perfect and Tim Minchin.
This reputation and success means student entries to WAAPA are highly competitive. Dance alone this year auditioned over 200 applicants across the country. Good luck to all those students who auditioned and are still waiting on placement offers.
This year, former Darwin High School students, Jordan Bretherton and Mitchell Aldridge will graduate from WAAPA Bachelor of Dance Program. Since 2008, ten Darwin High School students have been accepted in WAAPA.
Darwin High School, Performing Arts Teacher, Sarah Calver said that
Credit goes to the schools that value dance as an educational subject, especially Darwin High and SLIDE youth.
