WAAPA Selection Success

WAAPA Selection Success

On Saturday 7 October six Darwin High School students auditioned for a place at the renowned West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

Congratulations to Luther and Zachary Wilson and Allain Gumapon on receiving offers into WAAPA for a 2018 BA Performing Arts Dance. Congratulations also to Samantha Chin who has been shortlisted.

Dance teacher, Sarah Calver said

Only twenty-two students are offered placement each year and over 250 Year 12 students audition nationwide so three dance students from DHS and a fourth being shortlisted is an exceptional result.

The audition process required students to demonstrate an understanding and application of specific techniques, presentation and communication through a solo performance. The DHS senior dance students auditioned along with representatives from the local Darwin dance industry.

WAAPA is part of Edith Cowan University and is recognised nationally and internationally for the quality of its graduates. This reputation and success means student entries to WAAPA are highly competitive. Good luck to all those students who auditioned and are still waiting on placement offers.
