Wellbeing Works at Darwin High
As part of RUOK? Day last week, Darwin High School replaced a staff meeting with Wellbeing Works – an afternoon designed to give staff the opportunity to actively engage in wellbeing, rather than just talk about it.
Teaching and admin staff were invited to choose from a range of activities and spend the hour wrapped up in a warm hug of connection, creativity and calm. The sessions included a meditative Visual Art workshop with Elizabeth Martin, an energising African Drumming Circle with Adam Scriven, a relaxing yoga flow with Courtney, a chilly Ice Bath experience with Joe from Darwin Chill Recovery, a Deep Listening journey with James Mangohig, and heartfelt harmonies with Thalia and Billy from Darwin Beach Choir.

The impact was felt immediately. Staff described feeling “much more relaxed and less stressed” and valued the dedicated time for self-care. One staff member reflected, “It makes me feel like DHS values my wellbeing and understands that staff will be at their best from these kinds of activities.” Another commented, “YES! It was the happiest I’ve left work maybe ever!”
A huge thank you goes to all the local organisations who supported Wellbeing Works and to our own DHS teacher, Ms Jemima Saunders, for leading and organising such a fantastic event.
