World Teachers' Day
On Friday 27 October teachers across the Territory celebrated World Teachers’ Day. Every year the Department of Education acknowledges the contribution of teachers to their school communities at its Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards.
Held at Parliament House, this annual event announces the regional and Territory winners of the awards, based on nominations submitted by school staff, students, parents and school community members.
Seven Darwin High School staff were nominated for the 2017 Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards. Five DHS teachers were nominated in the category of Secondary Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to Eileen Bell, Christine Latham, Michelle Elliott, Esther Tan and Marnie Foster. The school also had two staff nominated for Northern Territory Education Support Person of the Year. Congratulations to Fiona Foran and Jen Harker.
Award finalist, Darwin High School teacher Marnie Foster, was awarded the Senior Secondary Teacher of the Year for the Darwin Region.
Senior teacher, Manju Dhir said
Marnie Foster is polite, calm, cooperative, caring, inspirational, well organised and helpful, always ready to help others not only language teachers but anybody comes to her for help. She is an amazing person and an educational leader.
Minister for Education, the Honorable Eva Lawler, herself once a Darwin High School teacher, presented the finalists with certificates at a ceremony at Parliament House.
Congratulations Marnie on this outstanding and well deserved award.
