Dance Dimensions
Our most recent performance, TRANSITIONS showcased the brilliant and exceptional talents of Darwin High School's 2016 Year 12 Dance students. It included captivating, creative and fresh new works by choreographers of note.
With packed shows every night between 19 and 21 September, audience members were inspired and amazed by the energy and quality of the performance, packed with energy, humour, passion and the bizarre. TRANSITIONS is how you expand the horizon of what might be; it's about seeing things you didn't see before, remembering moments in life that excited your imagination and inspired your future.
At Darwin High School, Dance is a valued part of student education and our mantra for educational Dance programs offered is: Inspire, Inquire and Acquire. Driven by the needs of senior dance students, the school's Dance Department designs programs that:
- confirm the vibrant presence of dance actively shaping creative options for younger generations of Darwin artists;
- extend students' possibilities beyond the classroom and stage;
- provide unparalleled learning and performance opportunities for Darwin based dance students, artists and choreographers.
Highlights of the 2016 year include: a unique nine day intensive dance exchange in collaboration with WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts), a leading Performing Arts Tertiary Institution and other WA arts practitioners/companies; the celebration of artistic links into the Darwin dance community; and mentoring workshops with guest artists that ignite students’ passion for dance. In 2016 several alumni have returned from their further study in Dance at WAAPA, VCA, Ministry of Dance, Brent Street, The SPACE and Deakin and inspired our 120+ senior dance students to explore their endless creative energy and move beyond their boundaries with purpose and passion, providing opportunities for students to share their skills and interests.
