Stage 2 Drama Students Prepare for Upcoming Production
This week, our Stage 2 Drama students visited the Costume and Props Department at the Darwin Theatre Company to source and trial costumes for their upcoming production of The Great American Scream. Set in small-town USA in 1938, the play blends comedy and drama to explore the influence of media on public perception and fear.
Inspired by the real-life broadcast of Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds, The Great American Scream follows the Buttles — an all-American family who are thrown into chaos when a radio drama is mistaken for a Martian invasion. The production offers a thought-provoking and entertaining look at media literacy and mass hysteria, themes that remain strikingly relevant today.
The visit to the theatre company provided students with a hands-on opportunity to deepen their understanding of character, era, and theatrical design as they prepare for their performances.
We are proud to showcase the talents of our cast:
- Standing (L–R): Lionel Ortega (Pa), Lilly Downes (Ma), Nicoletta Cotis (Rosey), Dani Pittaway (Kate)
- Seated (L–R): Wil Gow (L'il Georgie), Madison Lefebvre (Gran-mama)

Mark your calendars — The Great American Scream will be performed in The Tank at Darwin High School on August 26 and 27. Ticket details will be released soon — don’t miss this engaging and imaginative production!
