Tim Omaji, AKA Timomatic, was born in Nigeria and arrived in Australia with his family when he was 10 months old. At Darwin High School he acquired the nickname ‘Timomatic’ because of his hip-hop dancing skills.

Tim’s story

Tim rose to fame as a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance (Australia) in 2009, and in 2011 he appeared as a contestant on Australia's Got Talent. Later that year, Tim released his first single, "Set It Off", which reached number two on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified four times platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association.

Tim was the supporting act for the Australian tours of Flo Rida, Salt-n-Pepa, Nicki Minaj and Pitbull. He also performed to a global audience at the Miss Universe 2012 beauty pageant. In 2013, Tim returned to Australia's Got Talent, as a judge alongside Dawn French, Geri Halliwell, Kyle Sandilands and host Julia Morris.

Tim has been recognised by the Music Industry, including the APRA Music Awards, winning most played Australian work in 2013 for "Set It Off" and being nominated for Song of the Year and Best video for his song "Parachute".

In October 2015 he released his tenth single "Go to Work".

Welcome back

In 2016, Tim visited Darwin High School whist in town for several local performances, including the Star Ball which raises money to support the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Tim took a walk down memory lane, vising his old classrooms and saying hi to teachers and students.

While on campus he offered the following advice to current and future students:

Don’t be afraid to dream big. I think that sometimes kids that are up here think that, because it’s Darwin, because it so far away from everything, that they have to limit themselves. I’m living proof that you can do it. Dream big, and hold on to that dream and work really hard for it!
